Independent audits are being conducted on confidential Scouts files from as early as the 1940s.
Scouts Canada has revealed that independent consulting firm KPMG is now reviewing roughly 350 cases of alleged sexual abuse from its internal records. The organization arranged the audit of its files after drawing media scrutiny for child sex-abuse scandals. Victims allege that the organization's controversial confidentiality clauses prevented them from revealing their settlements, and in some cases prevented them from even mentioning their abuse. Scouts Canada’s chief commissioner Steve Kent offered a public apology/ad for Scouts on Friday. A third party panel of experts will review all of the organization's policies and procedures and will share its findings and recommendations with all other youth services in Canada.
