Top Ten Facebook Statuses of 2011

Facebook's 800 million users have spoken.

Not to be dwarfed by Twitter, Facebook has released data on the top 10 topics mentioned in status updates this year in its annual “Memology” study. In Canada, the most popular posts were “lms” (like my status) posts, followed by updates about Jack Layton, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the death of Osama bin Laden, Charlie Sheen, Insidious, military operations in Libya, Amy Winehouse, Jersday, and Skrillex. Globally, Osama bin Laden’s death seemed a bit more important than it did to Canadians, who also missed the global trend of discussing the Super Bowl, Casey Anthony, Steve Jobs (for shame), the Royal Wedding, and Hurricane Irene. Also in the study: the Onion has more likes on Facebook than BBC World News, and yes, Barbara Streisand really is still popular in Italy.
