A round-up of the best collections from the past ten years.

New Year's Eve 2009 saw the end of one of the most politically charged and aesthetically challenging decades in human history. What easier way to make sense of the endless ricochet of event and analysis than with a list?

Our contributors have chosen their top ten creative works of the decade, from artworks to albums, which we will publish on a daily basis.

Olivier Theyskens, Spring 2001 Ready to Wear
The styling and cut of the clothes from this collection were beyond imagination. Olivier evoked the sensational mood of a mysterious woman, designing clothes with depth.

Alexander McQueen, Spring 2001
This show was such a cinematic experience. I loved how the models were bandaged up so that you could barely see which famous face it was. The textures were a dream.

Marjan Pejoski, Autumn 2001
So sensitive and fragile! He showed beautifully crafted clothes that were stunning. The styling, hair and mood of the collection was surreal and fantastic. He is a man of detail and fine tuning.

Alexander McQueen, Autumn 2001
I loved the darkness and the sleekness of the clothes.

Jeremy Scott, Autumn 2002
I love the colours and attitude of the clothes.

Balenciaga, Spring 2004
I love the freshness of the pink colours he used and the drape of the garments. The construction of the suits is amazing.

Raf Simons, Autumn 2002
I love how he picks up on the mood of the culture of the moment and translates it into his clothes.

Azzedine Alaïa, Autumn 2007
Alaïa is a master of construction and knitwear. This show was great because we were able to see what he has been up to. Of course, he does things in his own way, which I love.

Alexander McQueen, Spring 2007
I love how Mcqueen constantly tries to reinvent modern silhouettes for our world.

Rick Owens, Autumn 2008
Owens pays incredible attention to detail. The way he makes his clothes look, both on and off the catwalk, is amazing.
