The loon, snowy owl, and Canada goose (ugh) all trail the fearsome predator.
Canada could soon have its very own national bird (just like a real, grown-up country!), but it might not be one that first pops to mind. The red-tailed hawk is leading in an online poll on the Canadian Raptor Conservatory's website, ahead of the Canada goose (a.k.a. the poo hawk) and the common loon. The hawk, which is found all over Canada and, in all fairness, is an awesome-looking bird, has garnered about 40 per cent of the polls 50,000 votes. Once a winner is determined, the ORC will take the poll to Parliament to lobby for the winner to be enshrined as Canada's national bird. So long as it's not the noisy, thuggish, unlimited excrement factory that is the Canada goose, we're fine with whatever ends up winning, although we're admittedly partial to the tufted titmouse for entirely juvenile reasons.
