Morning practice just got a little more interesting for the Habs.

The Montreal Canadiens have fired their head coach Jacques Martin in the midst of his third season behind the bench for les Glorieux. Martin, who had a year left on his contract, had a 96-75-25 record with the team. With the Habs sitting last in the Northeast Division, Martin will be replaced by assistant coach Randy Cunneyworth. This will be Cunneyworth’s first time in this job at the NHL level, though he has spent seven years coaching Rochester and more recently coached the Habs farm team, the Hamilton Bulldogs. Assistant GM and former blueliner Larry Carriere will take Cunneyworth’s former position with the team.
