The six-kilogram metal ball was made by man and fell from space, but that's about all we know about it.
There's a new instalment in our ongoing coverage of things from space that are trying to kill us today, this time owing to a metal "space ball" (yep, like the movie) that fell from the heavens and landed in the South African country of Namibia. The ball, measuring just over a metre around, landed in a rural area about 750 kilometres away from Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, in mid-November. The six-kilogram ball left a crater some 33 centimetres deep and nearly four metres wide. Local authorities are reportedly confused over where the ball came from, although they have determined that it's constructed out of "a metal alloy known to man," which is a little bit comforting, at least. Officials have asked NASA and the European Space Agency to determine just where this ball of metallic death could have come from, but no responses have been offered just yet.
