The Globe and Mail is reporting that the Canadian Broadcasting Company spent upwards of $6.6 million on its 75th anniversary programs. Though parts of its budget have not been released, the Crown corporation spent at least $300,000 on a CD box set, $590,000 on communications, and $37,402 on banners. Most of this money came from the CBC’s annual budget, which went towards English and French jubilee programming. The CBC also organized open door events, museum partnerships, fireworks and several television and radio specials for the occasion. The CBC’s $1.1 billion in federal funding has been repeatedly called into question over the last year as the Conservative government considers its budget cuts.
