Hey Mitt, About Those Iowa Caucuses ...

Turns out his narrow victory in the Hawkeye state was actually a tie. Sort of. No one's really sure. Oh, and Rick Perry's quitting.
Update: Reports are suggesting that Rick Perry, the governor of Texas more known for saying "Oops" and calling Turkey's leaders "Islamist terrorists" than any of his policy proposals, is going to bow out of the Republican race today. Perry will supposedly endorse Newt Gingrich, who's also landed the support of failed vice-presidential candidate and gubernatorial quitter Sarah Palin.
Two weeks ago, Mitt Romney edged out Rick Santorum by eight votes to claim victory in the Iowa caucuses, his first electoral win on the way to the Republican presidential nomination. Or so we thought, at least. The Iowa Republican Party has now declared the victory to be a split decision between Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, and Santorum, a former senator from Pennsylvania, due to missing data from eight precincts. Recounts actually had Santorum, a social conservative, 34 votes ahead of Romney, but the missing data forced the party to declare both Santorum and Romney winners in the caucus. While this might give a bit of a boost to Santorum, it probably doesn't change the likelihood of Romney claiming the nomination. He's leading Newt Gingrich in polls ahead of Saturday's primary in South Carolina, and barring a major screw-up from the Romney camp, he looks primed to win the nomination after Super Tuesday on March 6. But Iowa? Iowa will always be that special moment that Romney and the abortion-hating, gay-disliking Santorum can look back on and say, "I can't believe I didn't beat that guy."
