Meanwhile, the U.S. and the Taliban are meeting in Qatar to discuss prisoner transfers.

Reports out this morning from AFP indicate that delegations from both the government of Afghanistan and the Taliban will meet in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to attempt to hammer out a peace deal. Details are few and far between at this point, but the peace talks would apparently coincide with discussions between the U.S. and Taliban being held in Qatar. A handful of Taliban representatives are believed to have headed to the Gulf state to set up a foreign political office for the Islamist group, where talks with the Americans began over the weekend. Both sides have so far refused to term the Qatar meetings "peace talks," and the Taliban have said they're hoping to strike an agreement over a transfer of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay. The Taliban says it will release an American soldier they've been holding if the two sides can come to terms.
