Blue-collar comedienne reminds us once again that the U.S. has a multiparty system in theory, at least.
Somehow, the U.S. presidential race has become even more absurd, with comedienne Roseanne Barr filing papers to be the Green Party's presidential candidate. Barr, most famous for her role as Roseanne in, well, Roseanne, widens the field of candidates in the Green Party race from three to four. As you might remember, two-time Green Party candidate Ralph Nader kind of lost the 2000 election for Al Gore (give or take a few hanging chads and/or Supreme Court decisions), as he leeched just enough votes away in Florida to give the state to George W. Bush, and we all know how that turned out. Barr, who owns a macadamia nut farm in Hawaii, says she will institute a single-payer "European-style" healthcare system and forgive all credit card debt in the country, because apparently she has no idea how the division of powers works. She also wants to legalize marijuana and outlaw "bull". Yep, bull. The Greens will determine whether Barr or any of the other heretofore unknown candidates will be the party's nominee at their convention in July.
