Freestyling: From Los Angeles to the World

Published: May 10, 2012

A pioneer of freestyle rapping, The Riddlore describes the evolution of his craft into a global phenomenon.

Throughout the early 1990s, Los Angeles’ most innovative freestylers gathered every Thursday night at the The Good Life Cafe for a one-of-a kind open mic. The Riddlore, part of the hip-hop group known as Chillin Villain Empire, or C.V.E., could frequently be found on the mic alongside other legendary groups such as the Freestyle Fellowship and members of Jurassic 5 and The Pharcyde. The Mark caught up with The Riddlore while he was in Toronto to talk about his craft.
