John Russon
Philosopher; Professor of Philosophy at the University of Guelph.
Contributor Biography
John Russon is an expert in politics, communication, and mental health. He is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Guelph. He is also the Director of the Toronto Philosophy Seminar, an international group that meets annually to discuss matters ranging from human rights and international relations to the nature and value of artistic expression. He is a frequent lecturer and seminar-leader, nationally and internationally, on matters of politics, psychology and philosophy.
In addition to teaching and lecturing, he has also written a number of books of philosophy. Human Experience: Philosophy, Neurosis, and the Elements of Everyday Life (2003), is an award-winning study of the development of personality through family and social experience. This work, which investigates how we develop mental health problems and how we might correct them, is frequently taught in university courses across North America. Bearing Witness to Epiphany: Persons, Things, and the Nature of Erotic Life (2009), investigates the nature of sexuality, and its fundamental place in human life. In addition to exploring the psychological dimensions of our interpersonal lives, this work also investigates the essential importance of artistic expression, and lays a new foundation for ethics and multicultural politics. Both works are published by the State University of New York Press.
John Russon lives in Toronto, where he also performs regularly as a jazz guitarist.
