Contributor Biography
Howard Woodhouse has a PhD in History and Philosophy of Education from the University of Toronto, and is currently Professor in the Department of Educational Foundations and Co-Director of the University of Saskatchewan Process Philosophy Research Unit. He has taught at several leading Canadian universities and at a university in Nigeria.
He is author of more than 60 book chapters and articles in refereed journals on such topics as the philosophies of education of Bertrand Russell and Alfred North Whitehead; academic freedom and university autonomy; cultural and economic dependency in Africa; and the importance of critical thought in education.
He is a consulting editor for four international journals, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Association for Process Philosophy of Education, a Research Associate of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives in Ottawa, and was one of the founding members of the Peoples’ Free University of Saskatchewan.
His book, Selling Out: Academic Freedom and the Corporate Market, published by McGill-Queen’s University Press in October 2009, was short-listed for a scholarly writing prize by the Saskatchewan Book Awards.
