Contributor Biography

Originally from Winnipeg, Ms. Sawatzky is an architect who has lived and worked as a filmmaker in Ramallah. Having spent ten years at the award-winning firm MacLennan Jaunkalns Miller Architects in Toronto, she decided to take a sabbatical. She was easily convinced by her partner to run off to Palestine and become an artist.

In collaboration with Elle Flanders, she has been working on various projects about life in Palestine including a film about the poet Mahmoud Darwish, daily life in Ramallah, and a road movie through the contentious land of the Occupied Territories.

She is writing about her experiences in Palestine on her blog, Homefree.
