Contributor Biography

As Senior Vice President, Mr. Batherson leads the public affairs practice for the Halifax office of Colour Creative Persuasion Inc. – one of Eastern Canada’s leading communications and marketing agencies. He is one of the firm’s three co-owners. Since joining Colour more than four years ago, he has provided strategic counsel to senior leaders in the following sectors: energy, telecommunications, transportation, health care, financial services, construction, food service, tourism, entertainment and small business. He brings more than a decade of varied communications and public affairs experience to everything he does as a professional or volunteer.

Before entering private practice, he worked in a variety of communications, research and legislative positions in Halifax and on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. From 1999-2005, he worked as a key member of Nova Scotia Premier John Hamm’s senior team – first as Press Secretary and concluding as Director of Communications. While working in government, he was chosen by the United States Department of State as one of Canada’s representatives in its select International Visitor Program.

He believes in the importance of giving back to the community – currently serving on the boards for Mount Saint Vincent University, Neptune Theatre, Halifax Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of Halifax campaign team. In 2008, he was one of 40 community leaders recognized by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Halifax, receiving their 40th anniversary Community Mentoring Award. In recent years, he has commented periodically on current events, public relations and marketing for: CTV, CBC Television, CBC Radio, CBC Newsworld, The Chronicle Herald, Radio-Canada, le Réseau de l’information and News 95.7 Radio.

He holds a Bachelor's in public relations (with distinction), co-operative education designation and a certificate of proficiency in French from Mount Saint Vincent University. He was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, and raised in Riverview, New Brunswick, and Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia.
