Mario Silva

Contributor Biography
Mr. Silva serves the constituents of the Toronto riding of Davenport as their Member of Parliament. He was first elected federally in 2004 and re-elected twice since then in 2006 and 2008. Prior to his election to the House of Commons, he served as a member of Toronto City Council for nine years and was twice re-elected.
He is a graduate of Oxford University, UK (Master's in international human rights law), the University of Sorbonne in Paris, France (receiving the “Certificat de Langue Francaise”), and the University of Toronto (Bachelor's in both political science and international relations). In 2007, the President of the French Republic bestowed him the title of Knight of the Order of the Legion of Honour (Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur), the premier order of France.
He has served as Official Opposition Critic for Labour, Official Opposition Critic for the Treasury Board and Official Opposition Critic for Foreign Affairs in charge of the Americas. He has served as at the Chair of the Liberal Caucus Committee on Undocumented Workers, Vice Chair of the Environment Committee and currently serves as Vice Chair for the Subcommittee on International Human Rights.
