Contributor Biography

Mr. Ibaraki – ISP, ITCP/IP3, CNP, FCIPS, DFNPA, MVP – started working with technology in 1965 and very much believes in the power of the community in helping professionals maximize their potential, make connections, manage change, foster relationship networks, and support career growth.

He is a Hall of Fame Inductee and multiple Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. A few of his more than 50 international recognitions and awards for a lifetime of outstanding contributions are profiled by the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS), where he is a fellow. Upon receiving his Advanced Technology Award in 2008, Premier Gordon Campbell thanked him for his "commitment to industry excellence.”

As a widely recognized IT professional, Stephen was named the Most Valuable Professional (MVP) in Windows Live Research and Development (there is only one globally). He is also a featured keynote speaker in the EU, U.S., and Canada.

His writing endeavours have led him to become: a top-ranked blogger as co-host of the IT Manager Connection Blog, one of the largest online IT management communities; chief editor or publisher of IT journals including Microsoft’s Technet YouShapeIT; publisher and managing editor of the Network Professional Association's (NPA) Journal, where he also serves as NPA past vice-chair and current board director.

He plays an important role in many national and international boards including: first chairman of the global board of the Global IT Community Association (formerly Culminis) – the world’s largest alliance of IT organizations representing several million business and IT members, where he still serves as board director while immediate past chairman; chairman of the iGEN Knowledge Solutions board (a multi-national business solutions, strategic advisory and product development group); past national board director, vice-president, chairman, and president of the National Board of CIPS, where he is currently advisor to the Office of the Executive Council (OEC) as past president; executive board director and chief strategy officer for ChinaValue, holding the number one position in social professional media and business intelligence research in Asia, reaching out to over 100 million business and IT services there; board director for Computer for Success.

He is also an active member of the IT community: a judge at the MSDN Code Awards and Ignite Awards; member of the IEEE-CS; member of the ACM (PD committee, 2010 chair Intel ISEF committee and 2010 chief ACM special awards judge at the world’s largest, International Science and Engineering Fair or ISEF); member Microsoft Global IT Advisory Council; member Gerson Lehrman Group (past Gerson Lehrman Scholar, a distinction for the top advisors in industry worldwide); member GuidePoint Global (formerly Society of Industry Leaders Vista Research Group (unit of Standard & Poor); past member 2006/7/8 Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD).

Because of his invaluable experience, he is a sought out advisor for the UN-founded International Federation for Information Processing’s (IFIP) International Professional Practice Partnership (IP3); the VineGroup (a multi-national venture capital and investment bank); Mckinsey; the National Council of IT Deans, where his opening keynote at their summit in the past two years has garnered a unique 100 per cent response rating; the Prithvi Institute, India; the All-Star advisory panel for Canadian Business Magazine’s annual executive search; SeCTor; and various fortune 500 corporations.
