Contributor Biography

Dr. Greenberg (Ph.D., McMaster University) is an Associate Professor of Communication in the School of Journalism and Communication at Carleton University. He is also cross-appointed in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, and is a past director of the Centre for Voluntary Sector Research and Development, a Carleton University Research Centre.

He is a recognized expert on media coverage of social problems, the impacts of public relations on democracy, surveillance culture, and nonprofit communication. He has published widely on these and related topics in numerous peer-reviewed journals and books. He currently has funding for three major projects: the first examines the PR strategies of corporations and NGOs in the context of debates about global climate change; the second explores the role of communication in relation to contentious public health issues; and the third involves a longitudinal analysis of media reporting about homelessness and social housing in four Canadian cities.
