Contributor Biography
Dr. MacDonald is a Professor of Paediatrics and of Computer Science at Dalhousie University with a clinical appointment in Paediatric Infectious Diseases at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax Canada. She is the former Dean of Medicine at Dalhousie University and the head of the Health Policy and Translation Group of the Canadian Centre for Vaccinology.
Her current research interests include vaccines for serious infectious diseases in children and youth and vaccine safety. She has published over 200 papers, served on a number of editorial boards, and is Editor-in-Chief of Paediatrics and Child Health, one of the most read Canadian speciality journals. She was the Acting Editor-in-Chief in 2006 and is now Section Editor for Public Health of CMAJ (the Canadian Medical Association Journal), one of the top 10 general medical journals in the world based on impact factor.
She is an elected fellow of Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and is active in many professional organizations as well as serving on many federal government committees. She is a consultant to the Department of Immunization, Vaccine and Biologicals of World Health Organization.
She has long been recognized in Canada, as an advocate for children and youth health and as a leader in paediatric infectious disease.
