Graham Livesey

Contributor Biography
Mr. Livesey is an Associate Professor in the Master of Architecture Program (Faculty of Environmental Design) at the University of Calgary, where he has taught design, architectural history, and urban design since 1991. He holds a professional BArch degree (1984) and a post-professional MArch (1991) in history and theory, both from McGill University. He is a former principal of Down + Livesey Architects (1995-2004), a Calgary based firm that designed a wide range of projects including transformations of the Art Gallery of Calgary and the Alberta College of Art and Design. He is the former Associate Dean (Architecture - Academic) and Director of the Architecture Program at the University of Calgary, and was recently the Treasurer of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (2007-2009) based in Washington, D.C. He is an expert advisor on architecture to The Canadian Encyclopedia, editorial advisor to the journal Architecture and Ideas, and member of the editorial board of the Journal of Architectural Education. He has published two books with the University of Calgary Press: Passages: Explorations of the Contemporary City(2004), and Gordon Atkins: Architecture 1960-1995(2005). He currently writes about contemporary cities, exploring questions of agency, territoriality, and green space systems. He is presently working on a doctorate in the Faculty of Architecture at TU Delft in the Netherlands, where he is examining the legacy of the Garden City movement, urban ecology, and the theories of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari.
