Contributor Biography
Patrick Fafard is a political scientist with a special interest in Canadian health policy and issues of federalism and intergovernmental relations.
Originally from Edmonton and with degrees from the University of Alberta and York University, Mr. Fafard holds a Ph.D. in Political Studies from Queen’s University. He is the author and co-editor of several publications dealing with health policy, federalism, and environmental policy. Mr. Fafard has also enjoyed an extensive career in government and most recently served as Director General, Strategic Policy and Research, in the Intergovernmental Affairs Secretariat of the Privy Council Office. Before joining the Government of Canada he worked for the Governments of Alberta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan where he served as the Executive Director of the Policy and Planning Branch and Executive Director of the Commission on Medicare. Mr. Fafard has also served as a Senior Fellow with Canadian Policy Research Networks.
His current research projects include work on how scientists conceive of public policy; attempts to incorporate performance measurement into Canadian intergovernmental relations; and public participation in constitutional change in Canada. He is also a contributing author and co-editor of a forthcoming book on the politics of community and identity.
