Contributor Biography
Steve Munro has long been an advocate for public transportation improvements in Toronto. This began in 1972 when, as a member of the Streetcars For Toronto Committee, he succeeded in reversing a long-standing TTC policy of abandoning streetcar operations. His advocacy continued on many issues related to operation and expansion of the transit system, and he acts as a resource to other activists, media, planning professionals, and politicians seeking an alternate view of transit issues.
In May 2005, Steve was honoured with the Jane Jacobs Prize.
In January 2006, Steve launched a blog to provide a forum for detailed discussions about a wide range of topics. Steve coined the name "Transit City" and is proud that Toronto has recognized Light Rapid Transit as an integral part of the transit network.
Steve’s professional life in Information Technology ended with his retirement in early 2009. When he’s not preoccupied with transit, Steve can be found in many theatres indulging his love for the performing arts.
