Keith Beardsley has been active in politics from the municipal to the federal level for over 30 years. He is known for his strategic sense and his ability to develop and implement complex advocacy campaigns using a wide variety of tactics while simultaneously engaged on a number of fronts. Mr. Beardsley is a government relations strategist by profession. His extensive political background began when he was a community activist in the West Island of Montreal, where he was a key grassroots organizer for a community association. He represented the association in municipal affairs issues and communications. He led what was until then the largest tax revolt seen on the Island of Montreal. Mr. Beardsley was then elected to city council, serving in the intergovernmental affairs portfolio as well, as the president of the Inter-municipal Library Board. Upon moving to Ottawa, he went on to serve as a ministerial chief of staff and senior advisor in three federal departments. He has also served as a senior political advisor to five party leaders and as the head of research for the Progressive Conservative Party and the newly merged Conservative Party of Canada. From 2003 until 2008, Mr. Beardsley was a senior political advisor to Stephen Harper and served as a deputy chief of staff for issues management to Prime Minister Harper from 2006 to 2008. Mr. Beardsley has the advantage of having served both in opposition and in government, providing him broad insight into the parliamentary process and government decision-making. In addition, he has over a decade of experience running issue management and Question Period from both sides of the House of Commons, and he has experience with the Senate as well. Mr. Beardsley created one of the most effective rapid-response teams in modern Canadian politics and served in several political war rooms. In opposition, he developed the tactics and issues that were used in Question Period and committees. In government, he reversed this role and helped to guide legislation through committees. While working for TNPA, Mr. Beardsley served as a senior advisor to Sheila Weatherill, the independent investigator into the listeriosis outbreak of 2008. Mr. Beardsley’s experience makes him well-suited to provide strategic, communications, and tactical advice on the governmental and parliamentary aspects of issues important to clients. While taking a break from politics in the early 1990s, Mr. Beardsley was a successful real estate agent, broker, and franchise owner in the Ottawa area. Mr. Beardsley also appears on CTV’s Power Play with Tom Clark as a political analyst and writes a blog on Canadian politics. Many of his articles have appeared in the online National Post and Cornwall Free News. Mr. Beardsley is a licensed private pilot and keeps his 1961 Piper Colt at Smiths Falls Airport near Ottawa.
