Ross Eaman is an associate professor in the School of Journalism and Communication at Carleton University. His most recent publication is A Historical Dictionary of Journalism (Scarecrow Press, 2009), available in paperback as The A to Z of Journalism. He is currently working on another historical dictionary-cum-encyclopedia for Scarecrow, this one on the mass media as a whole. His other publications include Channels of Influence: CBC Audience Research and the Canadian Public (U. of Toronto Press, 1994). Over the years, he has written at length about public broadcasting in Canada and sought to support its development as an informed private citizen, appearing before Parliamentary committees and serving as an advisor for the Auditor General’s Special Examination of the CBC. His other academic interests include communication and the built environment; communication and international crises; and the philosophy of communication. His B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. were all in history.
