A vote for the Venus Project.
I did a radio show talking about what the Venus Project and the Green Party have in common. I think it would be great to see the Green Party and the Venus Project working together.
If you could have a one-on-one conversation with Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, what would you say to her?

I have many questions to ask, which fall under the categories of: - Net Neutrality - Real Transparency in the Party - Monetary Reform, Getting Rid of National Debt - True Equality and Human Rights - Immigration Policies - Real Freedom of Speech in Canada - Resource Based Economics (The Venus Project) - Laws Against Police State Activities - Welfare and Social Services - Pollution Punishments (ex. Carbon tax, fines, etc) - Education - Political Corruption and Big Business - Crime - What does your party actually stand for on REAL issues, like Oil Sands?
Dear Elizabeth, We have all been delighted to see the Green Party vote to end Fluoridation across Canada. Given that the decision to fluoridate tap water is a municipal one, how can a federal party, such as the Green Party, work with local organizations to make this a reality?
The growth paradigm in economics holds that economic policies can and should be geared towards yielding high economic growth in both the short term and the long term. Yet unchecked economic growth is destroying our environment; and since the human economy is a subsystem of a finite biosphere, it cannot continue to grow forever. In spite of these facts, the growth paradigm underlies almost all contemporary economic planning. What are you doing to challenge the growth paradigm in economics?
Would you concur that a leadership contest is the best way to engage Canadians at large in understanding the full value proposition of the Green Party and to ensure that its leader is truly endorsed by members?

What do you feel the role of education is in helping us move towards a more sustainable future? What could be done better in our formal education systems? What types of informal education opportunities are needed? How will the Green Party work towards education that promotes sustainability?
The current system within schools is limited. Many subjects that are required are not used once a student has graduated. Useful trades, such as auto mechanic, political science and finance are all things that we encounter in day to day lives. Reconstructing institutions to be more like Trade Schools is far superior to the status quo. Also, the ability to memorize/learn what has been taught seems like a simple and logical skill to be available. If a child has the tools to memorize anything he/she desires to learn..the possibilities would be endless. Through a million diversities..comes a million possibilities.
Why doesn't the Green Party propose a merger with the Liberals? The two parties' DNA is the same (unlike the NDP's), so much so that Stéphane Dion didn't run a candidate against you. The popular vote of the Greens and the Liberals added together would put you comfortably ahead of the Conservatives. Wouldn't this be better (for both of you) than languishing in opposition?
Do you support Bill C-390 being reincarnated and passed into law? The Bill gives conscientious objectors to war (religious convictions or not) the right to pay income tax into a separate fund that can be used for anything the government chooses save for any military purpose. I am of the opinion that Canadians should have more choice in how their tax money is spent, and buying new fighters with my money would not be my choice. How would you accommodate these concerns of Canada's pacifists?
It's common knowledge that there is a vast gap between Canadians and the politicians who are supposed to represent them. Seldom do we hear of politicians making any real effort to engage and discuss issues with the public; when we do it's often only to further their goals. As you have a party that is new and unspoiled by the system, how willing are you to devote yourself to truly representing Canadians through engagement and discussion? If so, how would you do this?
I'm interested in talking to Elizabeth May about what common citizens can do to restore transparency and participatory democracy in our nation and indeed worldwide. Recently in Toronto we saw free speech brutally trampled on at the G20, Harper's government continues to ram through legislation that reduces process (e.g. environmental assessments) and centralizes power, and fewer and fewer people vote. What needs to change in Canada and how can ordinary citizens effect that change as power and wealth become more and more centralized and corporate driven? What does that future look like?
Your second place showing in the London-North by-election should have been viewed as a positive step forward. If you view having a Green MP in the House, why did you not stay in London to try and build upon that strong performance? Instead, you thought it was better to attempt to dethrone a strong senior minister. Currently, you are trying to unseat another member of the Cabinet. Would London not have been a better endeavor?
I would like to have a conversation with Elizabeth, to highlight the Green Party's views on the legalization of Marijuana. Have you signed the Vienna Declaration ? What are your thoughts on freedom for Marc Emery ? I would like to help create a music video to inspire the Don't-Voters to claim their power and help save Democracy Cathy Theriault, Marijuana Party for The Green Party
A cursory look around the world reveals some shining examples of how national Green parties are fighting for civil equality. In New Zealand and Portugal, Greens are pushing bills on gay adoption. The Australian Green Party introduced the Marriage Equality Amendment Bill to grant same-sex couples equal marriage rights. The Austrian Greens were instrumental in pressuring the government to enact a new same-sex partnerships law. And, in Ireland, the manifesto of the Green Party explicitly refers to proposing a bill that would make all terms connected to marriage gender neutral. Ms. May, what is your strategy to woo the Canadian gay community?
I have an email asking me to join anouther party with the intention of helping elect a weak or easy to vilify Candidate ! As a radio broadcaster I have played Liberal , Green and NDP spots at half volume Read false pools , used negative intonation and was ordered to put the Antenna pattern on omni instead of night pattern to help a PC nomination meeting Get Greater coverage What are you going to do to educate on the Games , identify the plants with in that spread mistrust spread devision and help elect weak or easy to vilify Candidates ?
The future is scary and so uncertain for my children and grandchildren. How do we change the direction our leaders have taken? How do we make the rich and the poor understand the importance of working together, to create more equality? How can we do it? The time seems so short and the agenda so complicated. Can we create true democratic, cooperative socialism? How can we make these terms less scary for the people who have a little bit and those who have more? Greta.
Dear Ms. May, According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, a barrel of tar sands oil generates 82% more GHG emissions than the average barrel refined in the U.S. As the largest exporter of oil to the U.S. and with GHG emissions soaring to 30% above 1990 levels by 2012, how should Canada manage further development of the tar sands? Kind regards, Nathan Risling
Besides emphasis on environmental issues, what truly sets the Green Party apart from the other parties? Why should a Liberal or New Democrat, for example, vote for the Green Party candidate in their riding?
The venus project sees to the true cause of suffering and environmental degradation It is a waste of time that we do not have to treat societal symptoms instead of the root causes of our problems
Humans are quickly overtaking natural habitats worldwide. What do you think of putting in place a moratorium on all new developments (roads, houses, farms, mines, etc) in Canada and instead encouraging densification of existing urban areas with an emphasis on high energy-efficient construction/renovation with improved mass transit within/between "cities". The goal would be to decrease the per capita carbon footprint while encouraging more local communities and hopefully increasing everyone's quality of life.
Hi Elizabeth, I live in New Brunswick and would like to know how the Green Party views the role of the Federal Government in Canada?
If you are personally aware of how the Bank of Canada Act is not being effectively adhered to, and your Party is aware that Banks and Corporations are victimizing the Canadian People, why doesn't the Green Party have a Monetary Reform as part of its Platform
Will the Green Party commit to endorsing this report calling for First Nations to assume full responsibility for educating themselves (and the rest of Canada about First Nations history) and working in partnership to implement the blueprint for change as requested by Assembly of First Nations National Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo?
We are faced with four interrelated and interlocking threats to our biosphere and economy- water scarcity, energy scarcity, overpopulation and climate change. These threats need to be highlighted because the phony war on terror and war on drugs are draining public funds not only in Canada but around the world. Without solutions spaceship earth cannot become sustainable in the long term. How can the GPC demonstrate that it has a credible plan to address these threats?
Deal with the Liberals not to run a candidate aside, what was the strategy for running against Peter Mckay? He is incredibly popular there, has the name and the past connection. Why didn't you run where you could win, even as a carpetbagger?
In my view, Canadian democracy is threatened by the overzealous partisanship of our current parliament. What steps would the Green Party take to restore our federal legislature to a more balanced, effective and efficient working order? How would you shape our parliamentary system to become a stronger and more responsive instrument of democracy?
Canadians are tired of stale solutions to problems that are pigeon holed in political silos. How can you bring a new 'interdisciplinary' approach and a fresh perspective to our interconnected issues. Whether it's economy and ecology, humanitarian and military missions, poverty and education, gender equality and social capital - nothing exists in isolation. Tell us how you connect the dots and prove you see the big picture for the things that matter most to Canadians.
What should Canadian Green Parties learn from their European counterparts, who typically enjoy much greater electoral success?
Where is their a clear policy paper on the equalizing the advantage overseas producers have regarding operating under different environmental rules and regulations? In the production of solar cells for example, this gives Chinese producers a 30% cost advantage as they simply dump the silicon tetrachloride by product. Our laws do not prevent pollution, they merely allow it occur in someone else's back yard while we loose the jobs.
To gain broader voter support, the Green Party must not be viewed as a 'one issue party'; how do you plan on communicating with the voters on issues such as Global Economics, Immagration, Foreign Policy matters, and Canada's role in Afghanistan?
Is it possible to have a wide range of views represented in the House of Commons and still have an effective decision making process that comes to conclusions about the future of Canada, but also acknowledges and respects this wide diversity of opinion? Can a pluralistic society be governed by a mixed parliament and still prosper?
How many cops quit after finding out they were lied to and used illegally? Nuremberg established "I was just following orders" was not a supportable defense.
do you see the green party as a viable party in canada or is canada two much of a 2 (maybe 3 if you are being nice) party system for the green party to actually matter? and beyond this, do you feel that the green party takes away important votes from liberal or NDP candidates or are the ridings that the green party is typically strong in normally liberal/ndp strongholds?
In recent years the Green party has moved away from its more extreme right wing policies and has embraced good old (though never adopted) Liberal party ideas and ideology. Why not work within the Liberal Party to refocus it back to its ideological roots instead of creating and attempting to build a new "fringe party".
What personal investments have you made while saving for retirement? Are you investing in any green companies?
It is clear to me that there are too many people on this planet, wanting too many resources. Pretty soon we are going to have to decide whether we want to continue with our decadent lifestyles, or take measures to control our population. Neither option is very palatable, but failure to make this choice soon could result in far worse consequences. When will world politicians start making some hard decisions to either control our population or break the news to us that we have to make do with less?
Is the cause of all world issues the fact that we use a monetary system that divides us and forces us to dump waste into the environment Is the venus project the only project that gets to the REAL cause of human suffering, inequality, grunt labour, recessions, as well as depression and the negative use of drugs?
Why doesn't the Green party propose a merger with the NDP? It is inconceivable that an NDP government would have cynically dragged its feet on implementation of the Kyoto Accord the way that the Liberals did. While roughly half of the Liberals might merit the vague appellation "progressive", at least half don't--especially when they have a majority government. And history shows that when Liberals lead a minority government, they have more progessive policies--until they use its popularity as a springboard to an (artificial) majority. One thing that the NDP and the Greens have in common is a shared determination to bring about a more proportional electoral system and the more representative and responsive government that that would entail. That is a big part of the party's DNA (unlike the Liberals').
Margaret MacMillan, speaking at the Couchiching Institute, has asked a question that I've been asking for a while, albeit less publicly: isn't time for all of us to have a good conversation about the choice of society we've made in the last 30 years (commerce, consumerism), and is a country's "annual growth" the only garantee of happiness in life?
Hello Elizabeth, I see great opportunities in the future for the Green party of Canada. I am wondering why we (Canadians) are so far behind Eurpopean countries when it comes to sustainability. In other words, why are we so far behind when it comes to reducing, reusing and recycling? I would like to see Canada become more like Germany or the Netherlands in this respect.
In the developed world we use multiple times the resources that are used in developing countries. According to the standard of the ecological footprint, if everyone worldwide were to consume at the level we do we would need five planets to support us. My question is can we reduce resource use while still maintaining our standard of living (ie two hybrid cars instead of two standard ones) or do we have to reduce our consumption in order to live sustainably? How much fundamental change to our economy (ie predominently eating local food) is necessary for the long-term. Susan Wellisch
How do we convince average Canadians that inaction on climate change is the enemy of the planet and that waiting and obfuscating is tantamount to doing evil? Others argue that the "facts are not yet conclusive" and that gives enough solace to good people to do nothing. How do we get people beyond that?
Many people want to be 'Green', but fear the associated potential for economic down fall and job loss. The Green Party had an excellent platform that addressed many of these issues in the last election, but this message was totally lost on the majority of Canadians. What will you do to ensure that this crucial message is heard by all Publics ? Not just our Green Publics, but all Publics ? Hans Lussenburg :o) Nanaimo, BC (Nanaimo is "The Harbor City", on beautiful Vancouver Island, The Ocean Playground of the North Pacific and an Environmental Artist's Paradise")
As a Green, I have struggled with this question as an individual, especially in light of my desire to see the current regressive right-wing Conservatives replaced, asap, and by any minds that are at least centre-left. Further, I struggle to explain to family, friends, and colleagues why a vote for the Green Party can make a difference in their lives, despite the Greens being unlikely to form a Government in the foreseeable future.
I really want to know what Elizabeth May would say about the infamous ReThink Alberta campaign.. I know her opinion on the tar sands, but what does she think about holding tourism hostage in an attempt to leverage reform?
As society develops (slowly) becoming more eco-friendly, parties will surely have to push a greener agenda and work the environment into all the decisions they make. It seems that the triple-bottom line will be part of every decision made in the future by both the public and private sector. I understand the need for the Green Party at the moment as it is pushing the environment into all levels of debate; however, what happens once all the parties recognize the environment as a major factor in decision making? Will the GPC fold? Will it exist in 10-15 years?
How will the Green Party improve its' communication strategy so that it effects a greater and better poll result at the next election? Thanks.
I understand that the Green Party was not present at the Global Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth; however, the conference was so monumental and the Harper government has done much to de-legitimize it while even the UN has legitimized it. This is unacceptable and I am wondering how the Green Party is taking a leadership role to say that Canada must be supporting the people's voice and people who are most impacted by environmental destruction and climate change?
How would The Green Party convince the masses that Proportional Representation is necessary and implement it? I have been educated several times, vote every chance I get, and work a respectable job, but why do I still feel so distanced from my community. Why are so many important issues being left untouched by society and my internal conscience-- the environment, educating children, sustainability, consumerism & competition, loss of connection with others, the issues are known but they are all untouched and unanswered by the average person.
What is the venus project about? Who benefits from the venus project and how much will it cost? Why is a resource based economy better than the monetary system we have had for so long? With global climate change will this system help reduce our global footprint? Who makes the decisions in a resource based economy? Is abundance really possible for everyone, or wouldn't we just waste our resources even more quickly? Isn't technological unemployment a myth? Doesn't the increase in newer technology create jobs in different fields such as programming and maitenance?
We are starting a small green business with the intent to grow it into a big brand. There are no green economic resource available to ventures such as ours. Where would you suggest we start looking for such resource? Which financial institution(s) is looking and working with green businesses as a viable economic means or solution for the 21st century? We have to look at education if we hope to sustain a viable green economy - industrialization ran its course its of the pass and it should stay there. Jacqueline Dwyer Toronto, Ontario
Do you think there will be a North American Union? If so, will it eliminate Canadian Sovereignty? What is your vision for the Green Party of Canada in a North American Union?
My question is: Why would the Green Party even be considering partnering or endorsing the Zeitgeist Movement/Venus Project? The popular documentaries created by Zeitgeist Movement creator Peter Joseph feature mistruths against the religious beliefs of Christianity, Judaism and Islam, 9-11 denial and views technology as a cure-all to our environmental and social problems. Sounds like a cult to me. Haven’t we been here before? Oh yeah, the Technocracy Movement of the 1920s and 1930s. Technology has benefits and dangers. Anyone who sees technology as a cure-all is being short-sighted and looking for easy answers where there are none.
Were the Liberals to come to power, is it your sense that they would be willing to work harmoniously with the Greens and the NDP? I can't wrap my head around a merge, but I would like to see some cooperation, since (I believe) all three parties have something valuable to bring to the table. Regardless of who gets the most votes of the three, to me this would be the ideal scenario.
Dear Ms May: My question(s) for you : How can Canadians ensure the House of Commons is populated with fewer gynophobes, and instead balanced out by those who represent silenced actors in our country that need a voice like women, and the environment? What is your strategy for securing democratic gender balance, and what is your new strategy for guaranteeing yourself a seat in the H of C? Sincerely, Jessica Callan Blakey
I believe my ideas are shared by millions of people across the world, and so I was wondering at the way things are progressing, do you think that depopulation will be primarily caused by hunger, natural disasters or war. Or do you believe that humans will surpass their tendency towards greed and actually implement viable solutions to save the world and the majority of the population? We have already gone over the edge of peak oil, and I think this will become self evident to the majority of the people very soon, id say around November 2010.
So How long do you think it will take until the rest of the human population in the world wakes up to the sham of politics and gets shot. What solution to problems have you people actually contributed, apart from create wars, social disease, poverty a breed of elitism thats untouchable and now we have this police state in the UK. The rest of the population in the world maybe asleep, but there are some who see past the curtain you pull over us..
Why must sex trade workers risk their lives to do their jobs? It would take profound naivity to imagine that paid sex is going away. It's not a job anyone does for pleasure and increasingly, it is flirting with death. In light of the police negligence in the protracted killing career of Picton, what are we going to do about decriminalizing this work so that prostitutes aren't endangered by both the johns and the law?
How can we regulate oil sands industries to maintain a balance between business profits and a healthy ecosystem?
Do you believe there will be a North American Union, and if so, how will the Green Party of Canada appear in such a
Given the massive destruction being caused not only in the present but also in the future, it seems politics as usual deserves to be attacked and if such critical attacks are proportional to the destruction caused that would generate earned media. Attack ads work. Not using them at all leads to a disadvantage for the Earth. TO build anew one must tear down the old.
A lot of concerned citizens distrust government and believe that only individual action can change the world. Many of these people, for instance, are vehement about encouraging responsible individual green-mindedness, but are sadly not that bummed-out about something like the Copenhagen Accord's failure (not expecting anything good from government). How might these people be inspired by collective political effort in the name of the planet and social justice? How is the Green Party striving to get people to believe in political process once again - in everyday action, strategy and commitment (and not just platform proposals)?
Why should the Green Party move its 'primary party policy' towards gaining elected seats in a dysfunctional Canadian parliamentary system? Moving towards a new economy it is the government that will become the problem and Greens could be compromised. Participation in Parliament weakens Green policy away from the direction the common green individual is moving; doesn't it, Elizabeth?
You already have the people that feel that the environment is THE foremost concern. But what about the people who are not ready to sacrifice for the greater good? I have an idea I think you should follow... INTEGRITY We dont NEED a leader that is a financial genius, we need one that will hire someone WHO IS and SOMEONE WITH INTEGRITY, we dont need a leader who is great at trade talks with other leaders in the world, WE NEED one who will appoint someone who is, and someone with INTEGRITY. That is what will catch Joe and Jane Middleclass' ear. Everyone is starving for someone with INTEGRITY absolutely starving for someone to put our trust in. Give them what they want. And best of luck, to you and all of us.
It seems that every party has taken on socialism in some form (welfare, medicare, equalization payments etc.) and now everyone is espousing "green matters" (the environment, carbon emissions, recycling) thus how "Green" does the Green Party need to be to differentiate itself from the 'me - to" parties.
My dream, as well as the dream of many of my friends, is to establish a sustainable intentional settlement in south Ontario. However, at the moment zoning laws in all local counties and towns strictly forbid such development. At the same time greenwashing in widely encouraged. What can we do to open the door to real sustainable living?
Why couldn't we change our tax system by abolishing all current taxes (income tax, GST, PST, HST, etc.) and adopt a sustainability tax. Tax is paid when we consume, waste, or pollute. The CRA's auditors new task would be to investigate businesses (not make individuals lives worse), products, etc. to determine what tax rate consumers would have to pay when they buy goods or services. The taxes could be based on numerous categories which would gage the business on how it affected the environment. Consumers would be more educated.
An evil dictator has taken over our country destroying our national institutions and programs, advancing rhetoric over evidence, and worse, spitting out propaganda and shutting down the usual paths of communication to and from Canadians. We don't need the same old-same old. We need a new party and new leader for Canada. Come on Elizabeth! How can the younger generations help achieve this for Canada?
In today's complex world the answer to any question is seldom simply yes or no, red or blue, worse yet often the important questions are not even being debated by the public. How can the Greens convince Canadians that minority parties are not a wasted vote but rather an opportunity to elect local representatives who will truly advocate for their riding's specific concerns? How will you convince voters that our voting systems need to evolve to increase electoral choice and thereafterward the possibility for more relevant debate & eventually action in government?
Clearly, support from existing Green voters is strong, and growing numbers of undecided and young voters are leaning toward Green Values. But what is the Party doing to attract Liberal, NDP and yes, even Conservative voters who may be reflecting positively on our party's core values? Until the Party builds a genuine platform easily digestible to "everyday Canadians", that branches away from pure "environmentalist" branding, the GPC can never hope to form a Federal government. It is time to appeal to non-Greens, and build a strategy that strengthens Green Values as a achievable national agenda.
I would like to know how possible it would be to create hospitals that specialize in senors, just like we have hospitals for children. We realized that childhood is unique in a persons life with it own deseases . But we still expect our other vulnerable sector (seniors) to act like adults even though they are suffering from dementia, alzeimhers, waiting rooms they can't sit in.
The amount of Canadian household debt has doubled over the last decade; how can we reduce the debt burden on our children?
Your Honourable Elizabeth May, Thank You for giving me this opportunity to express my vision: "the Energy Exchange Programme" 1) Will take one car off the road, per household. 2)Will create a genuine work @ home job. 3)Will contribute to the weight-loss and fitness aspirations of all Canadians. 4)Will give Mothers/Fathers the opportunity to spend more quality time with their children. 5)Will reduce the carbon footprint of every Canadian by half. 6)Will make Canada a World leader in Energy Innovation. 7)God Bless you in all your "Green"endeavours, for your Time is NOW.
